Look about you and briefly take note of the objects in your current experience (books, tables, chairs, a coffee cup). As you are viewing your surroundings, try to imagine that you had lost the ability to organize your sensations into a collection of objects and could only experience a fragmented, unrelated, and unintelligible flow of sensations (patches of colors and shapes). What would this experience be like? Does this exercise suggest that the mind plays a very important role in the construction of our experience of the world?
