Locate a kindergarten or preschool classroom that has a play-centered environment in which children can develop literacy as they experiment with writen language. Collect data describing how children experiment with literacy in a naturalcontext. How does this play center promote literacy? As children engage in pretend play, what do they do that will assist in their literacy development? Are they using literacy props? What play-related language are they using? Take notes, collect anecdotes of interactions among the children, and compile all the information into a case study of one or more children’s literacy learning.
