Almost all activities carried out by people right from personal household activities to
large scale production, construction, and generation produce solid, liquid and gaseous
wastes, the disposal of which poses a great challenge to the society and mankind. Solid
Waste Management is the combined process of controlling the generation, storage,
collection, transfer and transport, processing, and disposal of solid waste in a manner that
is in accordance with the best principles of health, economics, engineering, and other
environmental considerations.
Solid waste disposal has been a worldwide problem which has great potential
impact on the environment. Although many countries are utilizing their state of the art
technology to recycle solid wastes, but still many countries are do not effectively
recycling their wastes causing a big problem for them to dispose of solid waste. Further,
the lack of awareness, technical knowledge, legislation, policies, and strategies are major
issues for solid-waste management in Asian developing countries One of the biggest
problem associated with the disposal of solid waste in most developing countries is that
the recyclable solid wastes are not placed in designated container or dump site by the
people which results in serious environmental pollution as well as scattering of solid
wastes on public places. This also increases loads of solid wastes every year.
