a. It also better supports Canadians, Canadian businesses, and the Government in
making sure they ​are​ able to avoid irreversible legal consequences.
Ans: In this sentence 'are' which is another form of the 'be' verb is used as an auxiliary verb. 'Are'
is the Present indefinite form of the 'be' verb. It is prural and mostly used with the prural noun
'they'.
The reason for using 'are' here is that 'they' is a prural noun. Now, in a present indefinite
sentence, after a noun that is prural, we need a prural auxiliary verb and 'are' is a prural auxiliary
verb.
b. If an employee believes that they ​have ​been unjustly dismissed from their
employment, they can, within 90 days from the date of dismissal, file a complaint
alleging unjust dismissal.
Ans: 'Have been' as a whole here acts as a factor that makes this particular sentence a present
perfect one. Analysing individually, 'have' is the present indefinite as well as prural form of the
verb 'have' (has being singular).
Whereas, the verb 'been' is the past participle form of the verb 'be'.
