The rate of energy, or power, dissipated by incandescent light bulbs is directly proportional to the intensity of the light the bulb produces. In the two circuits shown as Figure 5.30a and 5.30b, each battery has a voltage of 9 V and each bulb, shown as a circled resistor, has a resistance of 3Ω. Find the rate of energy consumed by each bulb. Which circuit consumes more total power from the battery and which one produces more light?
