Let the actual channel slope in Problem 13.16 be 0.0015 m/m and its width be 50 m. All other data are as specified in the problem. a. Will the discharge remain the same as computed in Problem 13.16? 6. If a hydraulic jump forms downstream of the gate, will it run? What are its conjugate depths?
Problem 13.16
Water is stored behind a sluice gate to a depth of 3 m as shown in Figure Pl 3. 16. The gate opening is 0.55 m and the channel is wide rectangular with a Manning n value of 0.035. Use a contraction coefficient of 0.6 for the gate.
a. If the gate is clear (i.e., unsubmerged), what is its discharge?
b. What is the minimum channel slope downstream for this case to prevail?
