Clinical decision support (CDS) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) are strictly for clinicians. CDS supports enhances clinical decision making, which optimizes clinical workflow. The software secures compliance with clinical guidelines and protocols which reduces clinical errors to include medication. CDS narrows down recommendations and best practices for patient specific material. CPOE improves the accuracy and the delivery and transfer of data for various orders. To include but not limited to medications, xrays, procedures and discharges. most actions in health care follows an order. Electronic Prescribing also known as (E-prescribing ) is associated with CPOE. E-prescribing is the bridge for transmitting prescription between the physician, pharmacy and the pharmacy manager.
In conclusion, although this is just the surface of IT in healthcare, these systems are integrated and offers great benefits to both the clinician and the patient. This technology provides security, confidentiality and the efficient delivery and accuracy of information within the health care system.

linical decision support systems (CDSS)are computer-based programs that analyze data within EHRs to provide prompts and reminders to assist health care providers in implementing evidence-based clinical guidelines at the point of care. Applied to cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention, thisDomain 3(Links to an external site.)strategy can be used to facilitate care in various ways—for example, by reminding providers to screen for CVD risk factors, flagging cases of hypertension or hyperlipidemia, providing information on treatment protocols, prompting questions on medication adherence, and providing tailored recommendations for health behavior changes.
The evidence base demonstrating the effectiveness of CDSS is very strong. Research studies that examined CDSS had strong internal and external validity, the Community Preventive Services Task Force concluded that CDSS is effective, and CDSS trials have been replicated with positive results. Implementation guidance on CDSS is available from several sources.
Where I work we use a point of care system to communicate within the facility on all of your patients, it will remind staff to complete vitals daily, showers, medication administration notification. It is a very helpful system to keep everyone informed and not the same page per each patient.
