1st students response

If you had the necessary authority, how would you solve the primary care crisis?

If salary and workflow is the main reason for the decrease in physicians, then I would offer a cash sign on bonus to students applying for primary care positions. With the necessary authority, I would review the variance in salaries between specialties and primary care. A fixed number would be based on the advantage of all salaries, that would become an incentive to attract more physicians to primary care. I would focus on closing the gap between specialties and primary care. The education debt that was accumulated through college should also be reviewed. Education forgiveness programs should apply to medical students as well. I would create a program that offers applicants to eliminate 2% of their educational debt for the first three years accompanied by a 3year contract. At the end of each year of employment the student/physician would have to submit employment verification to the department of education to process the modification. Once the student/physician entering primary care increases it would reflect the decrease in urgent care and ER visits.

2nd students response

The US has two big problems in primary care:

  1. We don’t have enough primary care clinicians, and

  2. Primary care clinicians are buried under a mountain of burdensome administrative regulations, with not enough time and resources. In order to solve the primary care crisis I would have the physician reduce his or her practice size from the usual patients to half size patients. Have the physician or nurse practitioner offers same-day and next-day appointments .Direct primary care (DPC), an approach that is usually the least expensive but entails seeing more patients.DPC allows adequate time per patient, better attention to chronic illnesses, coordination of care when a specialist is needed, 24/7 access, and, most importantly, the opportunity to develop real trust. When students see that a DPC type of practice allows them to give excellent care, create trust and have a real impact on people's lives, have a decent home life and still get paid a good income, far more of them will choose primary care. Have the government cover the cost of medical school for students who devote ten years or more to primary care.

Solving the Primary care crisis:
Primary care is healthcare provided by the provider to the pati
ents on a day to day basis. It is one of the most important issues in the country mainly because of rising costs of healthcare, doctor and nursing staff shortages and burnout. If I had the requisite authority than I would have taken steps to do some changes and also formulate strategies to cope with this issue. I would have also had an incentive policy to the final year students of both nursing and medical sciences, so that they take up jobs...
