Lesson 14-15 DiscussionA meaningful response is needed to
at least two (2)of your peers.
1st students discussion
1. Not everyone is eco-friendly or even thinks about it. Some people may do things that is harming nature without even realizing it. One way to protect the natural world is to buy an electric vehicle if someone could afford it. There are several pros and cons about having one, but at least they do not produce any emissions. An individual may invest in an electric vehicle because they want to protect the future generations’ welfare. This is protecting the natural world because we humans are valuable.
This also protects the natural world because animals are valuable as well. Emissions is polluting the atmosphere which is an unsafe exposure for humans and animals. Animals are valuable in many ways. The most important is livestock. We count on animals as a food source. Another is domesticated animals that we own as pets.
2nd students discussion
Some ethical obligations one may have towards themselves for the natural world include refraining from different kinds of pollution. Types of pollution like air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution. One thing most people learn in elementary school nowadays is to reduce, reuse, recycle. Reduce your waste, buy products you can reuse instead of just rebuying things you throw in the trash, and recycle any products you do use that are plastic, glass, paper, and so on.
You want to protect the natural world because you live in it. You should want to breathe healthy air so that your lungs are healthy. You should want clean water to drink, to use, to swim in. We are a part of this natural world and if you aren't taking care of it then how are you taking care of yourself?
Protecting the natural world because humans are valuable happens in a way that we want to live healthier lives and we can physically do something to make a change to our world, to our environment. Animals can't do this, they don't have the resources we have in our economy to help repair the world. Animals are a part of our natural world, they need to live healthily just as much of us. Animals have a value in a way that they are diverse like us humans, that they serve as a form of beauty in this world just like plant life that allows us to breathe, or that they provide a way for some people to eat. You should want a future for both animals and for future generations to come, a good healthy future.
the topic was about one of the questions
- What are some reasons why our ethical obligations to ourselves may lead us to protect the natural world? What is the difference between protecting the natural world because we humans are valuable and because animals are valuable?
- Explain the marketplace argument in favor of the right for workers to strike. How could a union worker ethically justify not joining companions on the picket lines?
