Aim: To develop an annual coaching plan for a sporting team or individual of your choice. You will apply teaching, coaching and course knowledge to construct a purposeful experience for your participants. The use of reputable references should be clearly evident within your work. Harvard Uni SA referencing style is to be consistently and correctly used throughout your project.
Your Project must include:
1. The rationale for your choice of sport and the benefits it provides the participants • Provide an overview of why you have chosen this sport, and competition level. You must clearly justify your choice. • What are the likely benefits for your participants in being involved in your sport and program?
2. A summary of your intended coaching/teaching style and philosophy. (Refer to lecture 3) • Provide an overview of what your coaching philosophy is for this sport, team/individual and project. – • Explain what goals you want to achieve with this team/individual across the annual plan. • Outline of your targeted coaching style and methods including justification.
3. Analysis of your sport: Identify the physical, technical/tactical demands of players and positions • Using the table ‘demands of the sport’ (available in coaching project resources), present an overview of the physical demands of your sport. • Provide an overview of the technical demands of your sport in a table. • Discuss your sport in terms of the physical + technical demands that it places on the athlete/student at your chosen level, and what this means for your coaching. • If applicable, outline any significant rule modifications (different from the adult version of the sport) that exist for your target age group.
4. Considerations for your chosen athlete(s), in terms of inclusion and needs around gender, age, ability/disability, ethnicity etc Describe the demographic of your chosen group/individual athletes, and discuss considerations you will need to make as the coach. Discuss: • Age • Gender: inclusion, equitable participation, societal stereotypes. • Ethnicity/culture: specific issues that may impact on participation. • Ability/disability: breaking down barriers that cause disadvantage. • Other commitments and stressors in life: (e.g. other sports, studies, work demands, family, religion, school/holidays, social life). • Diversity in group: e.g. age, ability, experience. Identify how you will implement these considerations into your training program.

See templates available in resources folder via learnonline. **NOTE: The examples do not contain all relevant info as listed below, they are provided as a guide only**) • Level and experience of athletes • Phases of the year (off season, General Preparatory, Specific Preparatory, Precompetition, Competition) • Macro cycles (training months), & micro cycles(training weeks). • Key competitions and events • Training peaking index (1 = most important, 5 = least important) & life peaking index (e.g.1 = key exams).•Training volume and intensity across phases and macrocycles • Development of specific training components within your program throughout different phases/macrocycles/microcycles: endurance, flexibility, strength & power, agility & technical development, tactical development, cross training, rest. • The focus of each micro-cycle for conditioning, skill, tactics, psychology.
