Case Study Assignment/Geographic – As per Course Outline this assignment is 25% of your total grade
Region selection
Assignment Due - Week 12 of class – date to be announced by the Instructor
The basic first task is to define the geographic region where you are interested to explore legal issues in trade (example between Canada and China) from the credible source (NOT WIKIPEDIA). Based on Case examples that we had worked in class (ref. course book), please select one legal INTERNATIONAL agreement (not more
than 5 years old) on the bilateral, tri-lateral or multi-lateral basis. Make sure you understand that it is not JUST A LEGAL AGREEMENT – IT IS A CASE that was made about this legal agreement.
Make sure your case study has a title, your name, sub-sections, properly formatted and checked for grammar, pages are numbered, Times New Roman font (12), single or double spaced.
The case study has to be no more than 2 pages total. References need to be included separately (in foot notes, end notes or parenthesis)

format as follows:

Fact
(including extended background of the Case pertinent to your legal agreement and say something about latest developments in your part of the world) – 1 paragraph –
20% of your grade
– (ideal give me 1-2 sentences on China becoming active in trading a specific product in the last 2 years and recently strengthening its trade relationship with Canada. Then describe the overall case and name, number of the legal agreement, date of signature, etc).
2.
Issue
– 2 paragraphs (what is the controversy with your legal agreement? Any conflicts that had to be resolved?) –
20% - ref. course book examples

Decision – how was the law applied? – 30% - ref. book examples
4.
Application
– consequences for domestic laws of each countries, consequences to regional trade and the trade relationship between the countries involved in this legal agreement –

5.
Connection to power/regional/domestic and global politics and implications for current day trade relationships (check various controversial media sources, including Fox News USA (Republican source), CNN (mostly democratically inclined USA source), regional news of the region you focus on (if Canada, Canadian news agencies; if China, Chinese news agencies)
Bonus – 10 % (you do not have to do this point – not mandatory)
The purpose of this assignment is to acquaint you with the research and presentation of legal case studies (cause/effect relationship and critical thinking) and give you experience with the problems of using them.
