Learning Outcomes: This tutorial is designed to provide students with practice relevant to the major writing assessment for this unit. After completing this tutorial activity, students will have gained practice:
1. Investigating and describing a public health “problem” using a scientific approach;
2. Describing a public health “problem” using scientific style;
3. Participating in the peer review process;
Activity
A public health “problem” is a health condition or risk factor that impacts the health of populations.
Imagine you are a researcher employed at the World Health Organisation. You have been asked by your superiors to prepare a scientific brief to summarise a particular public health “problem”.
Select a defined public health problem of your choice (must not be human papillomavirus).
Apply the framework below to prepare your scientific brief. Your scientific brief should be no longer than 3 pages long (excluding references) and you must use the formatting rules outlined in the Unit Outline (see Unit Rules). Your scientific brief must be submitted to LMS (see week 5) for peer review by 9am Monday April 3rd.
