Introduction
There are 3 major perspectives that are taken into consideration in sociology. Sociologists analyse the different scenarios from different perspectives at different levels. From generalisation to concrete interpretations sociologists study the societal behaviour, the social events and the micro level analysis of the social factors to the big concepts and the major factors which include the macro level analysis of the social patterns
Sociologists today use the 3 perspectives in the sociological concepts which are: Symbolic Interactionism, Functionalism, Conflict theory. The analysis levels of the 3 theories are Micro Level, Macro Level and Macro Level respectively. The focus of the Symbolic Interactionism is the face to face interactions and the use of symbols. The focus of the next perspective i.e. the Functionalism perspective is the relationship between the parts of the society and how adaptive are the aspects of the society with respect to functionality. The focus of the third and the last perspective i.e. the conflict theory is the macro level analysis and considers the competition for the scarce resources and how the elite control the poor and the weak.
Food Relationships
Food has an extremely different relationship with people. People are passionate about food and make and eat food with interest. There are people who live their lives to taste each and every type of food and also try to make each kind of food very efficiently. The passion for food gives the motivation to pursue food making and tasting as a career path in the industry. There are multiple cooking competitions named as “Masterchef” which define the characteristics of a professional chef and also gives the developments and the characteristics that every professional chef should have. These competitions are held worldwide and different cuisines are given as tasks to be made and tastes are developed.
The sociological aspects for the consideration of the relationship between food and the society at the local and the international level is as follows:
The symbolic perspective for the relationship between food and people uses the face to face interactions between people and tries to understand in depth the levels of connect between people and food. Some people need flavour in their food and some people try to keep it bland, while some need their food to be fat free and some take in a lot of carbohydrates to build health. There are a certain population which has increased the intake of protein because they work out and newer muscles need to be built and developed.
The functionalism perspective gives the relationship between the different parts of the society and how adaptive is the society. The people and cuisines of the world differ from place to place and this aspect is covered in Functionalism perspective.
