Learning Activity 3 Instructions

Background to the assignment:
At the beginning of the Medieval Age, there was a synthesis of three different cultures within Western culture. There was the classical culture, Christian culture, and pagan culture. Each made adjustments as they interacted and came together, and over hundreds of years, they finally settled into a balanced Western culture for a time period.

Description of the assignment:
In America today, there is a synthesis of different cultures as well. There is the secular culture, Christian culture, and other religious cultures. In a logical discussion, describe what a possible balanced culture might look like in America in the future. Explain in an orderly manner why you came to these conclusions. It may help to read the essay in the back of your textbook titled. “The Future of Western Culture”. This assignment requires an opinion; you must clarify your position. If you include sources, cite them in current APA format. This assignment must be 250–300 words and must include the word count in parentheses. Submit a draft of your Learning Activity to SafeAssign for feedback a few days before the assignment is due.

Submit Learning Activity 3 by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module/Week 6.

Learning Activity Overview

The Learning Activities are short written assignments which require you to apply the knowledge you have gained in a creative and subjective way. There are 4 Learning Activities, due at the end of Modules/Weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Read over the appropriate Learning Activity instructions before you begin the module/week, so you can be formulating a strategy for the assignment as you proceed through the material. Each Learning Activity must be well-structured, be carefully edited and revised, and demonstrate knowledge and application of the concepts studied in the readings for that module/week.

Each Learning Activity must be 250–300 words and include the word count in parentheses. If any outside sources are used, they must adhere to current APA format. You will first submit a draft of each Learning Activity to be checked through SafeAssign. Submit your draft a few days before the final assignment is due in order to receive feedback on it. To submit your final assignment, click on “Write Submission” and paste your text directly into the textbox. Do not upload document files.

Refer to the attached Learning Activity instructions and Learning Activity Grading Rubric for further details.

Submit each Learning Activity by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the assigned module/week, except for Learning Activity 4, which must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on
Friday
of Module/Week 8.

Pragmatism of Romans
The Romans made great contributions to the world. Many of their contributions are in use even today like the English alphabets and numerals. While the list is lengthy, three of the most profound contributions of the Romans can be considered their architecture, law and sculpting.
The Romans perfected the art of architecture by constructing wide and solid roads, spacious domes and water supplying aqueducts among other construction techniques. The Romans strived for perfecting their living and a part of this was their effort to create things that made life easier. The wide roads, the domes that removed the need for several columns and the provision of water through aqueducts to bathrooms and home and then the drainage system that disposed waste water, all demonstrate the pragmatic attitude of Romans (Adam, 2005).
The law of the Romans was also very profound and was applied throughout the country. It contained strict commands that could not be broken by anyone. Some of these laws are even used by many countries today. The pragmatic nature of Romans made them apply the law to all citizens of the country without discrimination. The upper and lower classes were treated the same, before law.
Romans also sculpted figures to perfection. While the sculpting art itself was borrowed heavily from the Greeks, they created sculptures of unmatched beauty in public places. These sculptures show that the Romans were diligent and perfectionists even with arts they borrowed from others. Their pragmatism incited them to create the best of the best.
