Last year the voters were able to modify the state’s expansive three-strikes law after the change could not pass the regular legislative process. Others argue that making crime policy at the ballot box is bad practice because the results are often determined by whoever has the most money to do television and radio ads. Further, it is clear that most voters do not really understand the content of these measures. The recent past is also filled with examples in which the voters approved very bad criminal justice policies.
