1. Introduction
MyNetwork Company (MNC) requires to design the Local Area Network (LAN) in the occupied five floor building in Sydney. MNC requires the LAN connectivity to the staffs of its four departments like Administration, HR and Sales. Design of the sub-network should have the floor wise for each of the four departments. The first floor for the sub-network of administration department, second floor for the sub-network of marketing department, third floor for the sub-network of HR department and fourth floor for the sub-network of sales department of MNC. Ground floor of five story building is used to host the web and email servers of MNC.
The workstations of all the staff members connected to their sub-network must be able to access the Internet, Intranet and the local servers established and hosted at the ground floor of five story building at Sydney.
2. Design of Local Area Network
A local Area Network (LAN) is designed as per the given requirements of MNC. There must be five subnets for departments and servers. These all sub-network are connected to a main backbone network in five story building of MNC to provide the intra connectivity to each other and provides the services like web and email servers access, Internet and Intranet access. The design decisions for topology, LAN design and IP addressing are presented in the following given sections.
2.1 Network Topology
Network topology is one of the important network design aspect by which the structural network layout is build for LAN of MNC. The network topology also provides the connectivity specification for the workstations with the different kinds of network devices of MNC. The star network topology is taken here for the LAN of MNC in Sydney based five story building. Star topology is deployed for each of the departmental sun-network by networking devices and workstations.
2.2 LAN Design
The design of LAN of MNC is performed floor wise by defining the location of workstations and network devices and wiring to connect the workstations with the network devices. The detailed design layout is presented in the following figure.
