Lab 4 Basic CryptographyPage 2 of 2 MN502 Network Security Laboratory 4: Basic Cryptography Submission Due: End of laboratory class, submit the file on the Moodle at least 10 minutes before the end of laboratory class. Total Marks = 5 marks for 10 weeks Marks will be given only to students who attend and participate during 2 hours laboratory class. Submission on Moodle is mandatory as an evidence of participation. Description of the laboratory exercise: In this laboratory, student will observe how RSA encrypts and decrypts a message, and also compare different hashing algorithm. Task 1: Running an RSA Cipher Demonstration After completing all the steps in the manual for exercise one answer the following questions: 1. Write a report on your understanding on how RSA encrypt and decrypt. 2. What is your observation about which keys were used for encryption and decryption. Task 2: Installing GUI Hash Generators and Comparing Hashes After completing all the steps in the manual for exercise two answer the following questions: 1. From reviewing different digest in step 16, what is your opinion about these digests? 2. Compare MD2 and SHA512 and give your opinion which one is better and why do your think so? 3. After completing the whole exercise, what was your finding about the digests for the two files, are they different? What does this tells you about hashing digest? Write your answers for task 1 and 2 as a report and submit the report on Moodle 10 minutes before the laboratory class. Student will examine and analyse the security of webserver and local server, and also understand and analyse digital certificates on the computer. Task 1: SSL Server and Client Tests After completing all the steps in the manual for exercise one answer the following questions: 1. Compare the security features of website that received good rating (A and above) and not good rating (below A). Analyse the information and explain why some of the websites did not receive good rating. 2. Explain what you learnt about digital certificate from this exercise. Task 2: Viewing Digital Certificate Revocation Lists (CRL) and Untrusted Certificates After completing all the steps in the manual for exercise two, answer the following questions: 1. After doing the step 4, what is your understanding of Trusted Root Certification Authorities ? 2. After doing step 9 on Certificate Revocation List, why do you think this certificate has been revoked? 3. Read the information about the Certificates for Untrusted Certificates (click the fields for more detail if necessary). Why do you think this certificate is no longer trusted?
