Lab 2 Crime Scene Investigation Using Proportions And Scale Drawings A jogger was running through the park one morning when she noticed something mysterious. As a good citizen, she called the police. When they arrived on scene they determined the jogger had found a body part. The police investigator determined that it was a femur bone which is the upper leg bone. When the investigators went back to the station, they started to look into several missing person’s cases to see whether this could potentially be any of them. One of the investigators stated that the femur bone is approximately ¼ the length of the entire body. They went back to the crime scene and found the measurement for the femur was 17 ¼ in long. Using this information they determined that the person would be approximately how tall? Going back to the missing persons cases, they found three missing persons in this vicinity. 1. The first victim was a female who is 5’3” tall. Calculate how tall this person is this in inches? 2. The second missing person was a male who is 6’1” tall. Calculate how tall this person is in inches? 3. The third missing person was a female who is 5’10” tall. Calculate how tall this person is in inches? Feet Inch Total Inches Could any of the three missing persons be the victim? While one set of police investigators are trying to get DNA samples and other information, another set of investigators are taking pictures and measurement to be able to create an accurate layout of the crime scene. This part of the job is extremely important because any incorrect details could help the defense team to get their client an innocent verdict. You are now taking the role of the police investigator. It is your job to complete a scale drawing of the crime scene. You can use an x on your drawing to mark the spot that the body part was discovered. All items must be included in the drawing in the correct location. • Due east 3’6” from the spot of the crime scene is a picnic table. The table measures 63” x 96”. (Show your work using your scale to determine the correct size of your drawing.) • As far as you can see running from Southwest to Southeast of the crime scene is a jogging path and it is 3’ wide. It is 6’ 2” away from the original spot. (Show your work.) • Due south along the border of the path closest to the crime scene is a bench that 18” x 4’4”. (Show your work.) • One foot to the right of the bench(if you are facing the jogging path) is a street light. The base of the light is 1 ½ ft x 1 ½ ft. (Show your work.) • 3’ 10” North of the spot is an 6’ 8” x 8’ garden with a rock wall.(Show your work.) • There is a corner of the sandbox is 7 feet to the west of the focal point. The sand box is a pentagon shape with all sides being 3.5 feet. (Show your work.) • If the gate to enter the park is 3’ north of the garden and then 8’5” to the west of the garden, how many feet was the body part found from the gate?(Measure it from a diagonal.)________________
