Kuhn wrote: “Newton’s new theory of light and color originated in the discovery that none of the existing pre-paradigm theories would account for the length of the spectrum, and the wave theory that replaced Newton’s was announced in the midst of growing concern about anomalies in the relation of diffraction and polarization effects to Newton’s theory.”


2. Using one of these social problems, the Pro-Life/Pro-Choice, socialism versus free market capitalism, the vaccination debate (requiring/mandating vaccination versus the right to choose not to) and outline how Kuhn would analyze the problem.

5. Analyze the social problem you have selected using your analysis of Kuhn’s argument.


6. If Kuhn is correct, a paradigm shift, a change to how we see the world, is prompted by a crisis of some sort. Identify the crisis that was the catalyst for change.

Argue for one or the other option, however, and this is critically important, argue the opposite of what you believe.
