Part 1: Short answer
Read the question carefully and complete your answer in the space provided below the question. Use the word limit as an indication of the detail required in your answer.
Question 1
Scenario
You have been asked to assist a user wanting to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. The Windows PC has the following components:
· 2GB RAM
· Intel Pentium G620 CPU
· 256 GB HDD at 5400RPM with 35 GB free
· Graphics card with DirectX 9 support and resolution of 1024*768 display
· Windows 8.1 Home with licence sticker on the bottom
1.1. Provide details of some specific hardware components or system requirements that need to be checked to ensure compatibility when upgrading the operating system and determine if they meet the minimum requirements.
Use the following table for your answer. (Approx. 100 words)
Although the available components are sufficient for the intended upgrade. The user needs to ensure that enough free space is available. The update convergence requires Update UI, WU Agent to Orchestrator. WU Core and component-based servicing are streamlined for faster and frequent updates. The amount of space needed to download and install Windows updates is highly variable. Windows 10 will automatically free the space when required or notify the user.
1.2. The user received an offer about a free upgrade to Windows 10 a few years ago and would now like to take advantage of this offer. Advise them if this is or is not possible. If it is not possible to upgrade for free, explain how they can still upgrade to Windows 10.
Use the following table for your answer. (Approx. 100 words)
The offer of free upgrade ended in July, 2016. Therefore, it is not possible any more. However, Microsoft’s Windows 10 Media Creation Tool can be used on the machines with legitimate version of Windows 8.1 with a genuine license. The user needs to visit download page of Windows 10 and download the tool. When the upgrade is in progress, the Windows on user’s machine connects to Microsoft’s activation servers and acquires its digital license of Windows 10. The license is specific to the hardware on which Windows 10 is installed. The system will reactivate automatically in case of formatting the machine. If the user intends to change any hardware part in the machine, Microsoft offers simple procedure for reactivating Windows 10.

Question 2
Write a report to your IT workplace manager regarding Windows licensing. You must include the following information:
a) A comparative analysis between Windows OEM licencing and volume licensing
b) An explanation of the conditions in which is Windows OEM is free to the consumer
c) A discussion of the circumstances under which you would use volume licensing.
Use the following table for your answer. (Approx. 150 to 200 words)
OEM software may only be licensed and preinstalled on the PC or server hardware. Deployment with limited-use product ID key or Web or telephone activation. OEM software may not be transferred from one PC or server to another, even if the original PC is no longer in use. Applications and server OEM licenses may be reassigned if Software Assurance (SA) is added within 90 days of the OEM license purchase. Whereas, volume licensing saves time as it leverages preconfigured software compatible with the hardware and standard setup. It is capable of generating additional revenue by selling OEM software within desktop solutions. Product Activation requirements limit deployment capabilities through software distribution or re-imaging limits the deployment capability due to product activation requirements.
When the IT manager feels appropriate that multiple computers require authorized software, then a volume licensing setup would be suitable and a single license key would solve the purpose. It would offer the company cost effective way of acquiring software for multiple PCs along with license agreements for certain number of years.
