Your observation guide should consist of the aim(s) of your observation, the nature of the observation and the method of recording. It should list down (a) what to look at, (b) how to observe, (c) where and when to look, and (d) what to record (e.g. field notes or using a structured observation schedule). It should consist of a list of behaviour categories as well as behaviours that count as examples for each category and things to look out for. You should explain your choice of observation (i.e. participative, non-participative, contrived/structured or unstructured observation, direct or indirect observation and open or hidden observation) and the sample used during the behavioural observation. (30 marks) Task 2: Conduct the observation based on your observation guide but as an observer. Write a descriptive analysis based on your observation data and discuss the extent to which the data can address your research objectives. Your write-up for this task should be no more than 800 words . Task 1: Observation Guide outline
Research objectives
The objective o
f this research is to ascertain the extent to which adult-specific
learning methods contribute to student performance and happiness. Iis expected that there
will be a sharp contrast between the results of using these frameworks for adults against the
framework for child education.
Hypothesis
H1: Use of self-directed and experiential learning frameworks correlates positively
with both student performance and happiness.
For this hypothesis, there are three principle variables, each of which has different
measures and a different level of validity. The student results are qualitative, while both
adherence to the learning framework and student happiness are qualitative, and therefore
must be treated with more caution.Since correlation requires relationships rather than
absolute measures, the results will be valid so long as a correlation can be shown and the data
is gathered in an appropriate manner.
Construct analysis
In order to test the hypothesis, three tools will be used.
1) Student results: The results of the classes under analysis will be gathered, as well
as those of equivalent classes in order to provide a control measure.
2) Teacher performance & student perceptions: questionnaires utilising a Likert scale
will be distributed to both the students and the teacher. This is because teacher
performance and student happiness are both qualitative.

3) Observation: three teachers will be observed for the same constructs that are used
in the questionnaires.
Likert Scale questions
A standard Likert scale, going from 1 / ‘not at all’ to 5 / ‘very much/often’ will be
used. Although different phrasings will be presented to the student and teacher, the questions
will be as similar as possible–e.g., ‘does the teacher encourage you to refer to your own
experiences?’ (student) will appear as ‘do you encourage your students to refer to their own
experiences?’ for the teacher.
