Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, and Max Weber were the three most influential classical sociological thinkers. Marx is best known for his work on capitalism and on the role of conflict in society. Durkheim’s work focused on social solidarity. Weber is best known for his work on the rationalization of society, including the rise of bureaucracy.
