Overview During your work placement, you will be undertaking a variety of duties and tasks that relate to your course and the role of an early childhood educator and carer. You will need to successfully demonstrate that you can perform tasks required in the work environment and collect evidence. Your work placement Portfolio is divided into 2 Parts and should be submitted separately. This is Work Placement Portfolio Part 2. You will need to complete your portfolio within the original Portfolio Assessment downloaded from Open Space. When uploading your portfolio for submission, you can submit as a single Word document or a single PDF document. Your Supervisor will give you guidance and feedback on your performance, supporting you to complete the tasks in an appropriate and professional manner. Evidence of your performance must be collected and submitted to your Workplace Assessor. This document, Work Placement Portfolio Part 2, consists of eleven (11) tasks that are outlined with instructions on how to collect evidence. 2. Work Placement Portfolio Your Open Colleges Workplace Assessor will talk to your Workplace Supervisor about all the tasks you have completed throughout your work placement. Your supervisor will confirm that you have completed each task according to the instructions, and so you need to ensure your supervisor witnesses each task as you complete them. Work Placement Portfolio Part 2 needs to be uploaded once you have completed all eleven (11) tasks at the end of your placement as a single Word document or a single PDF document. Important note for students and supervisors All tasks in this document must be completed and individually signed and dated. We are not able to accept ‘group’ or ‘combined’ signatures or dates. Protocols for observing, photographing and recording children · You must obtain permission to observe, photograph and/or digitally record children (as applicable) when you are working with children and carrying out the tasks in this Portfolio. · ensure you adhere to all organisational policies and procedures for observing, photographing and recording. · For each child that is observed, photographed or recorded, you will need to supply a ‘Permission to observe/photograph/record a child’ form for each child signed by their parent/carer. A template for this is provided in Appendix A. Holistic approach to this Portfolio Throughout your 240 hours of work placement you will need to carry out various required tasks in Portfolio Part 1 and Portfolio Part 2 to demonstrate competence in your skills in early childhood education and care. At the beginning of your work placement, you will need to consult with your Workplace Supervisor to choose a focus group of children*. When completing the Tasks in Portfolio Parts 1 and 2 you will observe and plan experiences for your focus children, and support their holistic wellbeing, learning and development. You will also implement and evaluate experiences for your focus children using the Early Years Learning Framework (or an approved learning framework) to guide your programming approach. *Your focus group of children should consist of children of varying ages; at least 3 of these children must be babies or toddlers. One (1) child must have additional needs and one (1) must have behavioural concerns. Optional: tasks that may be completed during your Workplace Assessor visit Observation 1 in the Assessor Observation (AO) document requires you to demonstrate the following during your Workplace Assessor visit*: · Task 1: Implement an outdoor experience for three children of varying ages and encourage their participation · Task 2: Adapt an indoor environment to encourage the access and participation of three children of varying ages. To help minimise the number of overall tasks you need to complete during your work placement, you may choose to implement the above AO tasks as a part of the following task in this Portfolio 2: · Task 6: Plan two (2) holistic learning environments and two (2) learning experiences. Workplace Assessor visit Your Workplace Assessor visit will take place approximately half way through your work placement. Completion instructions 1. Prior to commencing any of the tasks in the portfolio you must have completed the required training as outlined in the training plan with your nominated supervisor. Indoor learning environment plan would include hands on activities,
1. Hands on activity plan- building mud pies where every child would be sitting on their own seat and moulding clay would be given, which they could mould into pies or anything else.
2. Building blocks – Chairs and seats would be set aside and the middle area of childcare would be used. Blocks would be distributed in a group of 2 kids and a square box would be allocated to every group.
    Outdoor Learning Environment
    1. Nature area/environmen
t plan– This outdoor plan would be performed in the garden where a territory would be marked. Kids would have to collect different type of leaves, rocks, bark or seeds within the territory.
2. Social area/plan- Picnic table with benches would be there, where chairs would be situated away from noise and play. Existing tables would be used as picnic tables.
    Written explanation
    You will need to include a written explanation of your reason/intention for each of the two (2) plans/sketches and the resources that will be used (maximum 400 words).
    Explanation for Indoor Learning Environment
    Hands on activity would help the kids to inculcate their imagination and creativity in building mud pies. It would also inculcate their motor skills and hand eye coordination. Likewise, building blocks would generate interest of kids such as, Jasmeet towards learning in indoor environment in a more efficient and creative environment.
    Explanation for Outdoor Learning Environment
    Nature area plan would not only allow kids to be physically functional but also it will allow them to be aware towards environment and develop connection with nature surrounding them. Likewise, the social area plan would help the kids, which faced issues in socializing such as Ashray and sometimes Jasmeet too.

More such activities such as sweeping the floor, arranging the toys after playing and other duties could be assigned to children in order to help them develop the above discussed aspects.

This activity allowed children to identify their thoughts and then express them with others. Further, it allowed Jasmeet to understand that every kid have their own choice and can not agree with him every time. Likewise, it allowed Ashray to eradicate the public speaking fear and helped Nova to enhance her confidence at stage.

More such activities are required to be arranged at childcare and this time in the outdoor environment. Future activities could also involve parents and this would further enhance children’s psychological development.
