ACAP Student Learning Support. ACAP is a college of the Navitas Professional Institute Pty Ltd. National CRICOS Code: 01328A. RTO Code: 0500. Page 1/3 Application in Context: Assessment 1 Part B Fact or Opinion Article Critical Analysis Scaffold The following plan or scaffold is a suggestion to help you plan and prepare the following assessment: MULTI 1015 Assessment 1: Fact or Opinion: Article Critical Analysis The purpose of this task is for students to critically analyse a media article.  A critical analysis of an article requires students demonstrate their understanding of the content of an article and can apply the content to the unit materials.   Note: The scaffold suggestion is based on the assessment criteria. However, you may choose to create your own scaffold based on your understanding of the task. Why should I prepare a scaffold for an assessment task? Preparing an assessment scaffold is an excellent way to organise your reading, writing and thinking for assessments. Your scaffold should be tailored to the assessment question and address the different task requirements. The scaffold can also help you identify whether you need to gather and evaluate more information in order to develop, build on and support your argument. How do I create a scaffold? To create your scaffold, organise your main points into clear sections and decide on the order of the sections. Create dot points for presenting each section in a logical sequence so that one point builds to the next. Remember that each section needs to include information from academic sources. You should also allocate approximate word limits to each section to guide your research and writing. Will the scaffold end up being my structure for the final draft? The scaffold will ideally provide you with a set structure for a final draft. However, you may find that you cut, paste and restructure your work after using the scaffold as a starting point. Where can I get more information about planning and preparing an assessment? The Student Learning Support (SLS) website has a range of resources to help you at any stage of preparing an assessment task. For this assessment, you may find these pages particularly useful: · Approaching the question · Preparing a plan for writing or presenting · Essays/Academic essays https://sls.navitas-professional.edu.au/ Possible Scaffold - 1500 Words Section Approx word allocation Introduction · Introduce the context – issue, minority group and media piece · Signpost points to be covered in the body paragraphs = Topic 1/2/3 What are the facts and opinions / impacts. · Thesis statement: Answer to the question / position 150 Facts · TOPIC: Introduce the facts identified in the article to be discussed in the paragraph. · EXPLAIN /EVIDENCE: Explain what elements of the story are based on facts and provide credible evidence Support with a reference. · LINK: to your next paragraph 300 Opinions · TOPIC: Introduce the opinions identified in the article to be discussed in the paragraph. · EXPLAIN /EVIDENCE: Explain what elements of the story are based on opinions. Introduction
In the context of global expansions of diversified food ch
oices, the modern inventions have dramatically changed the way crops are now produced and processed. In fact, this is the outcome of the globalization that the process of food and culture is seen as closely linked with each other; by sharing the cultural values with each other, individuals imply to share their food choices with each other as well(Fabbri, Holland and Bero, 2018). However, this association of culture and food is affected by the agenda of promotions which media does. The engraining of the oriental thinking in the media reports is influenced by this orientalise approach where the food growth and culture of one part of the word is deliberately criticized in the name of false evidences. As per the observation of the article, the approach of Beech over the Durian and Mangosteen is something that cannot be recommended as a part of healthy media culture.
Facts
At first, it is significant to overview the facts which are projected in the article and they testify the evidential highlights of Beech to defame mangosteen which is one of the major fruit prides of Asian region. Beech deliberately wrote in the NY Times against this kind of fruit, calling it the product of no strong purpose and almost mocking at the preferences that the Asian people make over the mangosteen as a part of their food culture. Substantially, this trend in western media of giving outrageous remarks over the eastern food culture and choices is being popularized by even the renowned media sources like NY Times. It simply does not mean that the analysis made by Beech in the article went unnoticed. She had to go through trolling on her social media accounts pertaining to the deductive criticism that she had done for the Asian food culture.
Additionally, it was not like the first time when someone from the west had criticised the food choices and preferences of Asian people in selecting their crops and fruits. The criticism and support both given to Durian are detailed in the article. In fact, there has been a mixed opinion sphere which exists in the form of facts in the article; this sphere presents the pros and cons of the media analysis in which, one part of the world (western) seems to have taken the influential position over the other part (eastern) one.
Opinions
As per the observation of the article, one can view that the media bias is one of the major components that affect the cultural contexts at global level. In fact, the power and authority that written and electronic media provides to the experts is beyond any comparison (Fabbri, Holland and Bero, 2018). The expert professionals are literally allowed to write whatever they think suitable and they do not even need to support their ideas with facts and...
