ITECH 5500 – Professional Research and Communication

Research Literature Review – 2018/17

Overview

In this assignment you will select a topic to research. You will need to identify suitable resources which address this topic, and write a summary of the main themes and insights which you identify within those resources. You will also need to provide your own thoughts on this topic area.

To select your topic choose one of the active areas of IT research and practice listed below. Then select an aspect of society to which that form of IT might be applied, and review how that technology might be applied to that aspect of society both currently and in the future. For example, topics might include “the use of artificial intelligence in medicine”, or “the use of data analytics in sport”, or “the use of the Internet of Things in agriculture”. The lists below are not exhaustive – if you have an idea for a topic which you think would be suitable that is not listed below, please check that topic with your lecturer.

You may also use this topic as the basis for your research proposal, although you do not have to.

Areas of IT research

  •  Artificial intelligence

  •  Data analytics / big data / data mining

  •  The Internet of Things

  •  Ubiquitous computing

  •  Virtual reality

  •  Augmented reality

  •  Data visualization

  •  Robotics

  •  Cloud computing

Assessment Details

This assignment is broken up into two parts

  •  Part A (15 marks) – This can be done individually or in pairs

  •  Part B (5 marks) – Must be done individually

    Part A (15 marks)

This section can be done individually or in pairs. If you work in pairs clearly identify the person that you worked with.

Each group is to submit an essay of 1500 to 2000 words. Your essay should be about the topic of self- efficacy and should include

  •  An abstract

  •  Introduction

  •  A section (no more than 500 words) defining the two aspects of your topic (the area of IT research and the aspect of society). Include anything else you think is relevant to this topic.

  •  A section (no more than 750 words) on research on your topic of your choice. You should find at least four academic papers on your particular topic and provide a literature review. Think carefully about your choice of papers – they should be chosen from reputable sources (be wary of online journals which claim to be peer-reviewed but are actually of very low-quality). This review should be more than just a summary of each paper – it should be a synthesis of the most important parts and how they relate. Some things you might look at are

o How the research questions compare
o What the motivations of the researchers were o What type of research they conducted
o Anything else of interest

  •  A conclusion which summarises what you’ve written.

  •  A reference section in APA style

Please remember that you must NOT include large slabs of text from the papers you read. The essay must be in your own words. If you use quotes from papers you have read, these must be clearly marked as quotes. If you use ideas from papers you have read, even re-written in your own words, you must appropriately cite those papers.

Submit this part to part A on Moodle. If you worked in pairs only one copy of the assignment should be submitted and it should clearly contain the names of both contributors.

Part B (5 marks) – Individual (250 words maximum)

This section must be done individually. Provide your own personal thoughts about the topic which you selected – this might address both the benefits and negatives of this application of technology, as well as speculation about the future developments in this topic.

This section should be submitted separately from the main essay (from part A).

Submission

Submit your completed essay via the given Moodle link.

Comparative Analysis of Language in Computer’s World
Abstract
Without software we cannot imagine our computer, software’s are the very important part of the computer and without programming language we cannot imagine our software it is the language who commands the software. So the languages are the very important part which makes software to communicate with computers as well as with the users. That’s why language has the significance role in the comp
uter science. As you see thousands of software around you they all are written in any language. As the other language or basic language like English, Hindi etc has grammar, rules, syntax etc same the programming language has. Programming language also contains grammar, syntax, semantic etc. this is a comparison among 10 languages like C#, Php, Haskell, Scala, Java script, Java, Scheme, BEPL, C++.
Introduction
Programming language sometimes computer language are the language which are used to run the software on computer system. Without the programming language we cannot imagine any software. This is only the programming languages that make software to run on the digital platform. Software is the set of many programs, whereas program is the set of instruction. C, C++, Java, Python, .Net etc are some of the most popular programming language. Assembly languages are known as low level language where as the Python, Java etc are known as the high level language.
Comparative Analysis
There are many programming languages like, Java, Scala, Python etc. We cannot say which one is better, it’s all depends on the requirements and situation of the customer. There is no language that can outperform all other language. It’s all depends on the application domain. The programming area is so vast and be cannot say that particular language is perfect and fits for all the aspects. Every language has its own rules, grammar, syntax everything and they support different paradigm and they all have different strategies to express themselves.
Which language is more suitable?
This is the topic of argument; some says assembly language and some satisfied on the C, C++, Java, Python and many more. From my point of view, I will prefer the language which is good in basics or the language which can be easily understood and clear clarity and the language whose syntax is clear because syntax is the main part of any programming language. Complex programming language can reduce interest of the users.
Developers have divided computer programming language in many categories. All the categories of programming language are as follows;
· Interpreted programming language
· Functional programming language
· Compiled programming language
· Procedural programming language
· Scripting Programming language
· Markup programming language
· Logic-based programming language
· Concurrent programming language.
Now we will see the description, pros and cons of all the above programming language.
Overviews of different Languages are as follows;
1) C++
Every platform has different instruction sets. Windows, Linux, UNIX has different instructions set to support the C++ programming language. Any file which is generated in one platform cannot be supported by the other platform for example; an executable file which is generated in the platform of Windows cannot be supported by the UNIX. Overall it is observed that C++ is not a platform independent language. Platform dependent is the biggest dis-advantage of the C++.
2) Java
Java is a platform independent language. Java produced byte code that can be run on any platform either windows or ios. Java is a partial object-oriented programming language. There are many important concepts like Encapsulation, method overloading, polymorphism, etc make Java different from other programming language. Java has much more popular set of integer. It is strongly object-oriented programming language. Exceptional handling is also another important concept of the Java.
3) Scheme
Scheme is a multi-paradigm programming language supporting functional, procedural, object-oriented, Meta, web applications, batch/CGI/Shell scripting application development. It has small language core and powerful tools to allow the language to be extended. The goal stated in the Scheme de facto standard is to provide a base from which compatible implementations can be built. A typical characteristic of all dialects of Lisp, including Scheme, is that they are homoiconic, i.e. self-representing. A list in Scheme can be interpreted as a data structure or a source listing to be...
