McNitt Spring 2021 Sociology 202 Marriage and Family Guidance Family Project (10 pts) For this assignment you will explore the nature of your family and then create a project that reflects some aspect of your family (or a family) in some creative detail. This is an open process to think about your family or what you envisage a family to be with its joys and challenges. Select a theme for example family holidays (food & activities). Project ideas can be built on research. For example: suppose you were to choose the average number of offspring the modern family has around the world as a project. A World Wide Web search will assist you in learning more about our global community as well as your own communities. Then, you would find some way of presenting your findings about the family compositions. Perhaps you choose a collage of pictures shared on power point indicating diversity of family life and how this applies to your family. At a personal level you could develop a cookbook of all the favorite holiday recipes that are served traditionally by your family or your faith community. It could be anything related to family rituals for holidays, births, marriages. You could write a poem or demonstrate how music has shaped your family. If you have a strong history of immigration share your story of how you are where you are today. Make this fun use family pictures and stories. All projects must demonstrate at least one sociological concept related to marriage and family. You will then present the final project on the last in class. Projects will be graded on: · What is the theme of the project. · Is the project professionally presented (Power point, no misspellings, references included). · Clarity of the project in relationship to the sociological content-is it clearly stated. · Oral presentation-shared with class and encourages conversation.
