1.0 Introduction
Automation is the process of substituting manual labour with the help of machineries. Automation helps in faster processing of services and products, which increases the quality of the services and improves the production of the products. Automation also offers consistency of service providing as well as product quality. Considering the benefits of automation, business organisations have started using automation in their production and service providing facilities. As automation requires low maintenance and generate high ratio of labour to production, it is capable of generating profit margins much higher than that of the manual systems used in many organisations. However, it is also responsible for the decreasing employment in sectors with high adaptation rate of automation, posing contrasting viewpoints of business ethics based and corporate social responsibility with social values.
The impact of automation has been much of a celebrated topic of discussion from the very beginning of its use in the industrial sectors. Literary discussion about automation was not critical and was considered in the light of scientific benefit dedicated towards the human civilisation and automation was not distinguished by its usage in the industry and general purposes such as domestic usage. As the adaptation rate of automation started increasing in the industry and started cutting the number of jobs in specific sectors, the focus of literary discussions became critical and the ideas of commercial automation is an ethical breach of social development was proposed (McLean, 2015). Later commercial or industrial automation was considered as topic for comparison with home automation and specific sectors were chosen as the background for the discussions. However, there had been very little discussions conducted on the impact of automation on automobile manufacturing industry, where use of machineries are common and which the proposed research aims to shed light on.
In the automobile company, the use of automated machineries are common, as the cutting, designing of vehicle frames, the testing of safety, and installation of components require the use of machines. The use of the automated machines increases the quality and performance level of the automobile manufacturing companies. The usage of machineries, in the automobile sector had retained opportunities for employment, which are currently being reduced as automobile companies are starting to increase their profit margin in a highly competitive market. The proposed research concerns with the impact of automation on the automobile industry to offer in depth assessment of the research topic.
2.0 Problem Statement
Automation in the automobile industry has increased to higher percentages of the total tasks that need to be conducted before and after sale of an automobile and has ensured the refinement of quality, consistency and dependability, however, the excessive use of automation has reduced employability and production cost, affecting automobile companies adversely.
The use of automation is refining the quality of automobiles, generating faster manufacturing process, with minimal cost production cost, as the employee involvement is reduced; however, because of automation many employees are not being able to get jobs and the installation of automated machineries in causing temporary hike in the production cost of vehicles, creating concerns over pricing. The lower scope of employment is restricting the flow of cash in the social communities, which is hampering the development of the society, the long-term effect of which is seen in declining sales of automobiles (Sharif and Huang, 2019). The hikes production is cost, due to the use of automation, is making the prices of automobiles higher, the advantage of which rival companies are taking to occupy market shares. In recent times, the degree of competition in the automobile industry has increased and the impact of globalisation has made the completion tougher. Therefore, the use of automation has increased rapidly to secure profit from better performance and lower engagement of human resources; therefore, lower level communities are not getting scope of earning, while the increasing population is making the situation worse (Adegbola, Fisher and Hodges, 2019). The proposed research would help in identifying the concerning issues and will hint at probable solutions for mitigating the issues with the help of literary discussions and reference to sources that display the impact of automation on automobile industry both in positive and in negative ways. The identification of the issues and their nature will help identifying areas of concerns.
3.0 Research Aim, Objectives and Questions
Research Aim: The proposed research aims at identifying the issues arising out of automation, applied in the automobile manufacturing industry, and suggests proper suggestions for mitigation of the issues and subsequent improvement of the automobile manufacturing process.
Research Objective:
· To critically analyse the advantages and disadvantages of automation in the context of automobile manufacturing process
· To identify the issues that arise out of the automation process in automobile industry
· To recommend suitable ways to improvise the method and implement them for better benefits in the industry
Research Questions:
· What are the advantages and disadvantages of using automation in automobile manufacturing process?
· What are the issues that arise out of automation process in automobile industry?
· How the process of automation can be improvised for benefitting the automobile manufacturing industry?
4.0 Justification and Potential Research Outcome
The proposed research offers in depth knowledge about the impact of automation in the automobile industry, however the catering of knowledge, processed in critical pattern makes it applicable to any technical industry in their core aspects, which in a combined format generate the significance of the proposed research. The research offers two constructing views of automation in automobile industry, one on the benefits such as increased production, refined quality and consistency and on the other, the demerits, such as the deduction of employment, restriction of monetary resource flow and lastly, the increases the production cost in the initial stages of automaton adaptation. As mentioned by Madakam, Holmukhe and Jaiswal (2019), the use of automation and its significance can only be assessed if both the positive and negative aspect of it is critically evaluated. The proposed research also derives the significant from the aspect that it not only mentioned and criticises the issues, but also provides...
