What happens if you are absent during the allocated class?
If a student is absent during the specific class time allocated to completing the practical skills assessment tasks, the student is required to undertake this task during a re-sit as soon as possible. Due to the ongoing class schedule and to ensure you as the student don’t fall behind in upcoming topics, it will not be possible to undertake the missed tasks during other class times.
Practical Tasks Structure – Case Based Scenarios
These practical classes in week 10 requires you to consider a series of case based scenarios on specific athletes where you will need to develop and deliver suitable strength and conditioning sessions. Many of these programs will need to be developed in-line with guidance provided by the hypothetical client’s medical or allied health professional.

Scenario 1.1
Asapersonaltraineryouarerequiredtocreateanumberofsessionsinresponse toguidanceorinstructionfrom an Allied Health Professional. In this case you may have to design a program for an athlete(s) following the guidelines and information provided by this healthprofessional.
Read the case study below and take this hypothetical athlete(s) through appropriate testing, then a 30 minute program which includes strength and conditioning principles and meets the athlete(s) needs and expectations.
You have been given a group of two AFL athletes by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach (Your manger). This particular group of athletes have had some issues of osteitis pubis flaring up in the later stages of their previous season.
The players Physiotherapist has written a letter outlining the appropriate guidelines for testing and programming that should be taken into account when assessing their base line measures and programming parameters.
The Physiotherapists referral guidance letter is below
Dear Strength and Conditioning Coach,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the two players that have suffered from osteitis pubis in thelatterhalfoftheseason.Afterassessingtheirsymptoms, itwasidentifiedthattheirpainwas brought about by excessive running and weakness in unilateral movements, such as changing direction on one leg andkicking.
We have worked with these players in strengthening their hip flexors, hip extensors, hip adductors, lumbar stabilisers, abdominal muscles, hamstrings and quadricep muscles over the past 4 months.
The players are now ready for their pre-season base line testing at the coaches’ request. Once you have completed your testing, please create a program based on the weaknesses identifying in the fitness tests, and ensure there is a strong focus on their core and lower body musculature. This will help prevent any further issues of their osteitis pubis reoccurring in the future.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
