Keep a copy of your practical skills assessments
It is a requirement that you submit your completed practical skills assessments in order to complete this term.
It is your responsibility to keep your practical skills assessments safe and secure for the duration of your studies. Please ensure that you take a copy of your practical skills assessments regularly after you log your practical tasks so that you will still have a record of the sessions you performed in the event you lose the practical skills assessments
Loss of work by the student will require the practical skills assessments and all its contents to be recreated in order to complete these units of competencies for this term.
Date of Submission and who your clients will be?
You are required to submit your completed practical skills assessments at the end of your practical task in Week 11, 3rd July.
Clients will be your class members; however, you must ensure you work with a different partner each task to ensure you achieve at least 3 (three) different clients throughout these practical skills assessments.
What happens if you are absent during the allocated class?
If a student is absent during the specific class time allocated to completing the practical skills assessment tasks, the student is required to undertake this task during a re-sit as soon as possible. Due to the ongoing class schedule and to ensure you as the student don’t fall behind in upcoming topics, it will not be possible to undertake the missed tasks during other class times.
Practical Tasks Structure – Case Based Scenarios
These practical classes in week 10 requires you to consider a series of case based scenarios on specific athletes where you will need to develop and deliver suitable strength and conditioning sessions. Many of these programs will need to be developed in-line with guidance provided by the hypothetical client’s medical or allied health professional.

Task 1
Week 10 Session 1: Body Composition Testing
This task requires you to undertake needs analysis and body composition assessment tests on 2 (two) clients where you will demonstrate the correct use and application of girth measurement son one client and skin fold measurements on a different client.
You will be assessed on your ability to;
· Undertake athlete needs analysis and evaluation develop an athlete profile
· Measure body composition of client using anthropometric standards.
· Identify the correct landmark locations in order to conduct girth measurements
· Interpret and discuss results with each client discus re-evaluation
Assessment Task Instructions
In order to undertake these body composition measurements correct, following the steps below will assist in establishing accurate and reproducible results.
1. Identify and mark the correct landmark sites for girth measurements and skin folds
2. Correctly identify the site for measurement to take place
3. Conduct the measurement correctly and record result
4. Repeat 3 times in order to attain an average value
In order to undertake a client needs analysis you will need to choose a client (partner from your class) and complete the athlete profile on them for a sport or fitness goal they would like to or are working towards.
Task 1.1:Conduct the following girth measurements by correctly locating the landmarks required for measurements and accurate procedures to taking results.
You will need to perform 6 (six) girth measurements on ONE client. You will need a pen and tape measurement.
Ensure you perform each test 3 times and then take the average. Record your result below.

Scenario 1.1
Asapersonaltraineryouarerequiredtocreateanumberofsessionsinresponse toguidanceorinstructionfrom an Allied Health Professional. In this case you may have to design a program for an athlete(s) following the guidelines and information provided by this healthprofessional.
Read the case study below and take this hypothetical athlete(s) through appropriate testing, then a 30 minute program which includes strength and conditioning principles and meets the athlete(s) needs and expectations.
You have been given a group of two AFL athletes by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach (Your manger). This particular group of athletes have had some issues of osteitis pubis flaring up in the later stages of their previous season.
The players Physiotherapist has written a letter outlining the appropriate guidelines for testing and programming that should be taken into account when assessing their base line measures and programming parameters.
The Physiotherapists referral guidance letter is below
Dear Strength and Conditioning Coach,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the two players that have suffered from osteitis pubis in thelatterhalfoftheseason.Afterassessingtheirsymptoms, itwasidentifiedthattheirpainwas brought about by excessive running and weakness in unilateral movements, such as changing direction on one leg andkicking.
We have worked with these players in strengthening their hip flexors, hip extensors, hip adductors, lumbar stabilisers, abdominal muscles, hamstrings and quadricep muscles over the past 4 months.
The players are now ready for their pre-season base line testing at the coaches’ request. Once you have completed your testing, please create a program based on the weaknesses identifying in the fitness tests, and ensure there is a strong focus on their core and lower body musculature. This will help prevent any further issues of their osteitis pubis reoccurring in the future.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Roger Wysen -Sydney Physiotherapy Clinic [email protected] 0426 578 710
