It is important that you get a chance to reacquaint yourself with university study and the art of writing. Some of you may have recently studied, whereas for others it may have been many years since you have written an academic piece. It is also likely that some have recently arrived from elsewhere and studied your first degree in a language other than English. Therefore, we are going to ask you to write something small that 1) gets you back into the swing of things, 2) give us a sense of how we an support you with any extra resources, and 3) helps you start to prepare for the final assignment. This assignment consists of a short (750 words) essay that helps you prepare for the third assignment. Using prose (full sentences) and making sure you cite at least three sources that you have researched, discuss the following in your essay: · How did you feel (or are you feeling) coming back to university as a postgraduate student? · What have you noticed about the culture of Murdoch University that is new, strange and/or unique? · Using sources from work you have read (eg. work posted on the unit LMS), what are some of the likely challenges you will have to deal with over the next semester? In assignment one, I shared my experience that how I am feeling after coming into new university as a postgraduate student. Additionally, I explained that Murdoch University is a new platform for me as an intercontinental student, where the teaching styles and culture are totally different, which will create great opportunities for me. Furthermore, I talked about the education system that as a postgraduate student, I felt a huge difference between Indian and Australian education system. I explained that during my graduation in India, I did a lot of hand-written assignments or completed practical files but when I got admission here in Murdoch University as a postgraduate student, I came to know that online tutoring is provided by our unit-coordinators by recommending online readings or by daily recorded online lectures. I mentioned some of the likely challenges which I will have to deal with over the next semester. For example, according to my experience till now, what I realized are that we have to make good relations with friends or with other colleagues to share ideas or to exchange our views to accomplish our goals. Additionally, we learned that how to use more resources to support our views. There is a huge difference in the Indian culture (‘home’ culture) and Australian Culture. I felt much variation in language, in education system, in university laws or in other expectations as well. Moreover, the students studying in the university are from different nations belonging to different cultures. This amalgamation of cultures in Murdoch helps to give more knowledge about new communities. While, in my home country ‘India’, the people follow their own tradition and culture, as there is not much variety of people belonging to new community. Initially, during my first week of class, I felt uncomfortable because English was not my first language. I can speak well but due to different accent and slang of Australian people’s language, I was unable to understand their wordings. Apart from this, I learned that it is not easy to study here without proper attention because everything is online and we have to be aware about the deadlines of assignments, discussions forums and presentations. But twenty-four hour service of library is very helpful for studying according to our own flexible timings. Apart from this, I attended the orientation and other activities which were performed during orientation week and during this time, I became confident after participating in some activities. In the starting, I was wondering that why I came here, but day by day everything was improving and I started understanding the concepts and accent of language. Now, I feel comfortable here and I have a lot of friends from different communities and with different cultures. As I mentioned that all the students I met in my class were from different parts of world and culture in Murdoch University was also new for me. Additionally, it was harder for me to adjust with such a new community because I was also independent student living far from parents and family. Therefore, I followed some strategies to cope with these different cultures. First of all, I made some friends belonging to different cultures and I introduced myself to them. With this, I felt comfortable to sit with people from another country because now I could share my ideas with them. Moreover, I got more information about the country and culture which helped me in exploring new things in Australia. Secondly, I made some efforts to learn the slang of English which is used by local people because whenever I went outside for shopping, for outing or for study in libraries, I had to repeat the words so many times. As it is said, ‘Language and culture are interlinked’, therefore, to understand more about the new culture or to live comfortably at new place, the language use should be good. Apart from this, I started participating in the class debates or joined the short term programs so that I could get involved in the community of Murdoch. For example, the Guild members sometime organized some curriculum on specific festivals, thus, after participating in such activities, I build my confidence. In the future, I will try to follow some strategies which can make me comfortable to live in Murdoch community. Firstly, I will try to become practically active student so that I can become able to attempt my academic tasks in authentic way. For example, participation in forums or other activities increase self-confidence which ultimately assists to get good grades. I am planning to join the volunteer groups organised by Guild members because this can make me more open-minded and socially interactive person. Apart from this, I need to put more efforts to improve my communication skills so I can talk more frequently with people. Example 2 First and foremost, coming back to the education field after a long time which is around 6 years gap it may be an extremely hard task for those students who come as postgraduate students. However, I was worried whether I will be a capable student to met all the requirements as per the university standards, once I entered to Murdoch university on my orientation I felt really good by seeing the atmosphere of this university which was completely new to me compare to my previous education experience in India, Lot of new faces from a different country, way of interaction between tutors and students was outstanding, the culture of a university which was a new platform for me as an intercontinental student and also I thought it will quite challenging for me maybe like the language barrier, unfamiliar with the education system of Australia due to English wasn’t my first language. Additionally, the first week of my teaching period I have seen and feel that the teaching style and culture are entirely diverse which will create great opportunities for me. Furthermore,

Personal Experience
It has been a long time now that I have completed my graduation from a prestigious university of India although the experience is unforgettable. Coming back to education, learning, and that too in an international university was an all-new experience for me. I was worried about the new culture and learning environment and was not sure whether I will be able to adjust with the environment. However, the treatment I received at Murdoch University while the orientation program, was very different from my imaginations. The atmosphere of the university was welcoming and supportive. I could easily sense it that the teaching style and culture of the university will create many learning opportunities for me both at the professional and personal front.
As I have already mentioned that I have done my graduation from an Indian university, I felt a huge change in the education system of these two universities. In India students are encouraged to undertake courses by attending the classes in person while here in Australia classes are online and students have to go through the daily online lectures provided by their course coordinator. Moreover, in India hand-written assignments are more popular in universities. In contrast, universities here in Australia are more dependent on online tutoring. Though it will not be easy for me to adopt a new education system, but I like...
