But I suspect Horney would argue as follows: (a) The dream refl ects the loss of the dreamer’s real self. (b) Thedreamer wishes to maintain the basic orientation of moving away from people, as expressed by the considerable distance between the dreamer and the therapist. (c) As in Adlerian theory, this dream of falling expresses the insecurity that underlies the dreamer’s conscious conceit. (d) The dreamer uses externalization to blame other people, here the taxi driver, for her problems.
