Introduction
With reference to the article “The Truth About Beauty in The Atlantic”, Virginia Postrel, I can’t help but to admire the thought process and intellect of Dove to tap the target audience with their rea
l beauty campaign. Indeed, this campaign had transformed how beauty products used to sell and campaign about their products (Postrel). Dove campaign wasn’t about showcasing zero size models with their perfect features and aesthetic. Rather it was more about the normal and natural portrayal of women as well as how women considered their beauty. Essentially, we live in the world where we beauty is narrowed to how one looks at the outside and how can one purchase more of magic solution sold in the jar to enhance the aesthetics. However, there is more to beauty than how one looks at the outside. Nevertheless, beauty is very subjective, now it might be reduced to media creation of cremes, serums, tonner and masks (Nolan, 2016). However, I strongly believe that in reality all women are beautiful if they are confident in their own skin and possess the self-esteem to look beyond their imperfections. By the virtue of this essay I would be explaining my argument on my thesis points and providing strong evidences to deduce the underlying premise.
Once beauty was about goodness and truth but now, we think it means little more than models, products and outdated art. Have practical concerns and the economy of desire made beauty trivial and expendable or could we follow Greta and Kant to cultivate our aesthetic judgment to enrich our lives. It's the goal of living beautifully it conceits only for the privilege elite. Is the goal of living beautifully a conceit of the privileged elite. The Dove campaign explains that there can be different definitions of what one considers as beautiful. Popularly when we talk about beauty, majority of people associates it with models and fashion along with everything that covers the real essence and spirit of what is beautiful. Therefore, I feel that true definition of beauty which is more platonic sense (Neff, 2014).
