IT Ethics and Security in an IT Certification Project Jeffrey P. Landry and J. Harold Pardue This fictionalized case revolves around the development and deployment of a secure, online certification exam and is constructed from actual events. The project presented numerous security concerns, technical and managerial, as well as ethical and legal issues that put the project, and the professional reputations of its sponsors, at risk. Some of the issues include cheating, inadvertent and intentional release of exam items, defenses against unauthorized access, risk management, confidentiality, and privacy issues related to the information collected on individuals and institutions. Solutions are provided along with critical case questions for students.
