Isn’t Socrates’ position rather extreme? Doesn’t it support glib slogans like “My country, right or wrong!” or “Either obey your government unconditionally or leave”? Isn’t there some middle ground between passively accepting everything your government does and moving? Doesn’t Socrates’ death sentence at the hands of his government show that the government is not always justified in what it does?
