The Hunger Games Author: Suzanne Collins This is the Four scenes/quote I picked. Chapter 7 At the end of this chapter, we have what has become one of the most memorable scenes in the film version of this novel. It is the scene in which Katniss shows off her skill with the bow and arrow. Since she is using a brand new bow that is very different from her homemade one, Katniss does not do well with her first shot or her first attempt. Therefore, the Sponsors start talking to each other and begin to ignore Katniss. Since this show of her skill is about a life and death situation, Katniss becomes very angry, and she shoots toward the area where the sponsors and the gamemaker are sitting in order to hit an apple in a roasted pig’s mouth, and this shot, of course, shocks/scares the group sitting and standing around this pig. How do they react, and how does she actually seem to win their grudging respect at this point? Chapter 1 Check out the very first paragraph of the novel. Even though this paragraph is only five sentences (and not five long ones), what do you think Suzanne Collins, the author, manages to do in terms of the narrative with this short opening paragraph? Remember that in literary criticism much has been made of the first sentences and paragraphs of novels or even the first scenes of movies. Chapter 9 This final chapter of Part I of the novel begins with “betrayal,” a single word, not even a sentence. Why? Katniss can only understand the change in training— Peeta training with Haymitch separately—as a kind of betrayal. She thinks Peeta must have a plan to train in a way that will help him win the games so that Katniss loses and dies. Of course, readers realize how ridiculous this assumption by Katniss truly is, and many readers wonder why Katniss jumps to this conclusion of betrayal so quickly. I want you to think about what I have tried to point out about the inability of Katniss to accept help—this idea can also be seen as her inability to trust anyone but herself. She has had to take care of Prim and her mother alone; they have relied on Katniss for all of their daily necessities. Therefore, Katniss cannot leave any of her activities to help and save her family up to any other person. No matter what the reality might be, Katniss thinks if something happens to Prim or her mother, it will be her fault, so Katniss has no room for the ideas of help and trust, especially from someone in the Capitol before the Hunger Games. Chapter 1 Why do you think Suzanne Collins chooses to use the first-person point of view in this novel? What can the use of a first-person narrator help do?

Chapter 7
In the selected scene, it has shown that sponsors underestimated Katniss and had doubt
in her ability as she missed the first target. In the second shot, Katniss shot the target appropriately however, sponsors missed it as they were involved in personal chitchat and having food. To draw their attention, Katniss pointed the bow and shoot the apple which was placed in the roasted pig's mouth. All sponsors stunned by this impressive skill at the same time, Katniss made everyone realized wrong as they doubted her...
