Take a position on the effectiveness, risks, pros and cons, and ethics of these methods. According to the video, Sergeant Baldwin and his staffs used the Lockdown methods to maintain order and safety in the prison. In my opinion, the above name method will only be effective in certain circumstance like what happened in Watertown in 2013— that is to say this method will be only applied when there are eminent threats to the whole public. In addition to the above point, there are advantages and disadvantages associated with this kind of method. One of the advantages of this method is that it will help to maintain order through reducing the in and out flow movement of individuals for easier identification of perpetrators. One of the disadvantages is that it restrict the movement of other citizens and also prompt the search of individual homes without any warrant that is considered as violation of individual right as per United States constitution. 1. He was arrested and taken into custody on September 28, 2000.Jerico according to the video claims that their sexual habit in the prison surrounded homo sexual. Based on the seriousness of the crime committed, he was sentence to 16 years in prison and this is how he ends up at state field in the state of Illinois. Moreover, according to the video, one of the major issues that inmates are faced with in many prisons including statefield is overcrowding. Overcrowding in prisons makes the jail experience miserable for most inmates. Cells that are intended for one or two individuals are packed with up to six individuals. This simply implied that inmates do not have sufficient breathing space that might result to health problems. Most often, inmates are forced to sleep in hallways. In such stressful situations, behaviors can be trigger, leading to violent, aggression .The close proximity and unsanitary living conditions also lead to numerous health problems. Besides overcrowding, some other includes: Public Perceptions about Jails, Time Constraints, Environmental Issues, Gang Affiliation, and Stress Related to Incarceration, Issues Related to Justice System Processing and Legal Representation, Confidentiality, Counselor-Client Issues. Finally, the other issue mention in the video was the privatization of the prison system which is considered not fair to many inmates including Jerico Jones. These private prison systems focus more on profit making instead of the wellbeing of the inmates. Additionally, as requested by the question, the major methods they used to cope with the system are accepting the facts of their status and also by cooperating with the correction department. © 2017 Strayer University. Based on my understanding and personal opinion from the video, I feel that the presences of active armed guards in most prison facilities will intimidate the inmates which later result to violence that raise overall safety concerns. I also believed that even though those inmates committed crimes that might either be criminal of civil, but they also should be treated as humans. As explained in the video, one of the officers stated that the presences of armed guard are purposely present to de-escarlate situations that might be of threat to both the facility and the inmates themselves. He further stated that arms are just used for warning shots or depending on the circumstances. 3. Describe the issue of isolation in Statesville presented in this video and the effects connections and contact with outside visitors can have on the prisoners’ mental status. After watching the video in question, I learned that environment can influence individual behaviors and motivate them to act. In addition, as the video revealed Isolation in Statesville prison perhaps has the most effect on inmates’ health. According to the video, I personally think that isolated environment such as Statesville prison can create more psychological effects on the inmates’ physical and social condition, which in turn impacts our bodies in multiple ways. This to my understanding is because human brain and immune systems are constantly interacting with one another. Therefore, isolation I saw in the prison setting from the video will lead to psychological and mental illness if not proper reconsider. © 2017 Strayer University. All Rights Reserved. Identify at least two (2) issues that gay inmates here uniquely face as well as at least one (1) method of protecting gay inmates against each of these identified issues. According to the video, the most two pressing issues that gay inmates are uniquely face with is privacy and identity, and HIV Infection. I think the hidden of the fact for being identify as Gay in a public and how public react is one the main issues uniquely faced by inmates in most prison facilities across the nation. Since gay marriage has become the law of the land, therefore inmates should be willing to openly identify themselves in public for what they believed in. I think inmates should also be provide HIV treatment and contact precaution and ways they should prevent themselves from been infected by HIV. 5. Take a position on how you believe conditions at Statefield could be improved. Include at least two (2) specific actions that could be taken to improve conditions (i.e. security and safety, abuse and use of force, isolation, poor food quality, etc.). Provide a rationale for your position. From my opinion, I believe some of ways to improve conditions at state field includes: Start treating inmates as humans even though they have committed crimes— that is to say some prisons have conditions that are inhumane to inmate. Proper monitoring or supervision at statefield should be increased to ensure safety and security for the facility and community as whole, and rehabilitation programs need to be strengthened. There is a strong believe that if all these aspect stated above are taken care of, the living conditions of inmates will be okay and inmates will also be assure about their security.
