Instructions: You have been asked to design a short telephone survey to find out the demographic characteristics of people in the catchment of a local community health service, and distinguish between those who actually use the service and those who do not. This assessment has two parts. Part 1 How can you identify and contact these two groups? In your answer, discuss potential sources of population data that you can use to select participants, and the advantages and disadvantages of using these lists to identify people in the population. You also need to describe your sampling method, the process you will follow to recruit participants, and the limitations of recruiting participants with this approach. This section should include references presented in APA style. Part 2 Formulate up to 10 questions that will elicit the demographic and usage information you need. You need to include a range of different question types to demonstrate your understanding. Include both closed and open ended questions. Include at least one question using a Likert scale. STAT6000_Assessment Brief 1 Page 2 of 2 Hints: Consider the type of data you need from each question, and word it accordingly Balance how you would like to summarise and describe the data with how easy it is for the respondent to answer the question. Consult Copy of questionnaire for survey4ED.sav in the Assessment area and in Module 2 Learning Resources for an example of a questionnaire used for a survey.

Introduction: Kando is a suburb in the mid-western of New South Wales with a population of 1,316 people and a general practice setting called Kandos Family Medical Practice. People living in the catchment of this health canter are the population which are supposed to be targeted by a telephone survey in order to reply these research questions: 1. What are the demographic characteristics of people in the catchment of the local community health service? 2. How to distinguish between those who actually use the service and those who do not? PART 1 SURVEY Identifying potential sources of data to select participants and explaining the choice, compare advantages and disadvantages of population data lists To choose participants, there are a number of sources including mailing lists, population census, school lists, lists of phone numbers and health services records. Martínez-Mesa, González-Chica, Duquia, Bonamigo, & Bastos, 2016). Martínez-Mesa, et al (2016) also indicated that school lists do not include families and individuals without schooling children and also those children who are home schooled. Due to the rapid expansion of cell phones, using list of phone numbers might not be useful as cell phone users cannot be included. Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality has recommended that health service records have the potential of being a primary source of data with regard to rich and credible data, but it is rather complex and time consuming to use. Furthermore, Martínez-Mesa, et al (2016) suggested that sometimes health records only include the individuals who are affected by diseases and use health services in place and in these cases, population is not fully captured by the health records. With regard to this information, I choose population census to select my participants from as according to Australian bureau of statistics, data for small areas such as the area I am supposed to conduct my survey is available, assuming satisfactory response rates are achieved. Therefore, it provides true measure for subgroups of, for instance, states. The disadvantages of using population census cannot affect the survey as: 1. The census has been conducted in 2016 so it is not highly out of date. (Australian bureau of statistics, 2017) 2. Homeless people which is a down side of population census do not make up a significant proportion of the population in NSW; only 5 per 1000 (ABS Census of Housing and Population, 2016). Furthermore, they mostly reside in metropolitans not regional areas such as Kandos. Select and summarize an appropriate Sampling method The method I would use for sampling is systematic sampling. The population size is divided to the number of individuals in the sample in order to obtain the sampling 2 3 Muhammad Yousafzai @ 2020-03-29T14:10:43-07:00 very good start Muhammad Yousafzai @ 2020-03-29T16:21:42-07:00 do you think census will provide phone numbers of all the selected participants? do you foresee any issue of duplicate numbers or households with no phone numbers? interval (K). Then a random element of population is selected and other elements are put into the sample by using every Kth element + random element. Analyse the process selected to recruit participants and identify any foreseeable limitations to this process Although minorities such as migrants have a smaller chance to be selected in the sample, this method provides an equal chance for each single element to be part of the sample (Raina, 2015). Systemic sampling is also easier and cheaper to conduct compared with other sampling methods such as simple random sample. According to Sharma (2017) sometimes periodic traits might exist in the population and if they coincide with sampling interval, the sample is more likely to represent a specific group other than the whole population. PART 2 SURVEY Based on the given instruction, demographic information of people living in the catchment of Kandos Family Medical Practice as well as factors to distinguish between those who use these services and those who do not, must be acquired through a telephone survey. According to Heather and Patrick (2015), demographic information includes age, gender, ethnicity, employment, education and marital status. Participants are also asked about some details in order to complete this picture and provide better understanding of the issue. The questioner designed for this survey is as below: Data collector: Signature: Date of interview: (dd/mm/yy) Interview starting time: Interview ending time: 1. You identify your gender as …? man woman others 4 Muhammad Yousafzai @ 2020-03-29T16:23:08-07:00 this is okay but always better to number code your responses which is much more easier for data entry later 2. Which category shows your race? white black/ African Asian Caucasian Hispanic/ Latino aboriginal and torres strait islander other races 3. Which category includes your age? less than 20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 Above 60 4. What is the highest degree or level of education you have completed after finishing high school? If not applicable, what is the highest grade of school you have completed? 5. Which category best describes your employment status? Employed, working 20 hours or less per hour Employed, working more than 20 hours per week Retired Unemployed 5 6 Muhammad Yousafzai @ 2020-03-29T16:24:09-07:00 age is a quantitative variable. Technically age is collected as open ended question and then categorise later during the analysis phase Muhammad Yousafzai @ 2020-03-29T16:24:33-07:00 dont ask two question together. 6. Which category describes your marital status? Married Widow /widower divorced never married 7. How often do you use services delivered by Kandos Family Medical Practice? Never Rarely (once or twice per year) Sometimes (3-6 times per year) Often (More than 6 time per year) 8. When was the last time you use their services? 9. How you ever recommended this medical center to other people? If not, please say at least one reason 10. Which services have you used more in the Kandos Family Medical Practice?
