Instructions For your writing assignment this week, you have TWO choices:  1) A 5 paragraph essay on the mass communication topic of your choice. If you choose this, your paper should still make a clear argument, provide evidence to support that argument, follow the outline of a 5 paragraph essay, cite 2 sources, and provide a visual.  2) You can complete the writing assignment below about Facebook advertising.  How do digital advertisers target you? For this writing assignment, you will analyze your Facebook advertising data. If you do not have a Facebook account, interview a friend or family member about their Facebook ad data.  To see what information Facebook has on you, go to Facebook Settings --> Ads. Look at:  · Under Advertisers: What ads you have seen and what ads you have clicked on? Did you realize you were interacting with these ads?  · Under Ad Topics: What ads can you choose to hide from your feed? Why do you think these categories are here?  · Under Ad Settings--> Categories used to reach you--> Interest categories:  What categories has Facebook associated with you? Where do you think they got this information? Is it correct?  · What other categories does Facebook associate with you?  · Now go back to your Facebook feed and find some ads that appear. How do these relate to your ad settings?  Write a ~2 page paper analyzing and evaluating your Facebook settings and reflecting on how advertisers target you.  Write up your paper in the usual format, using a 5 paragraph essay structure. Your paper should have the following elements:  · Be about 400-700 words in length (about 1.5-2 pages double spaced) · Respond to the writing prompt · Synthesize information from the class readings and apply it to your own life.   · Follow a 5 paragraph essay structure with an introduction, thesis statement, paragraphs with topic sentences that provide evidence, and a conclusion. (For assistance in writing, please see D2L-->content->writing resources).  · Properly cite at least two sources. These can be our readings, or outside sources. Citations should be noted in parentheses in the text, and listed at the end of the essay under references.
