Instructions

  • Find a political argument. This can be from your texts, a news article, one of the presidential debates, from a work of classical political philosophy, etc. Just make sure it is related to politics in some way and that it has at least two premises. I recommend picking an argument with no more than three or four premises because, generally, the more premises there are, the more complicated the evaluation becomes.

    • Include the title,

    • Paste the link or a properly formatted citation

    • Paste or type theexactargument as you found it.

From there, this assignment has exactly the same requirements as the first argument evaluation assignment. So look over the comments I provided and make sure that you include all required elements of all of the following four parts:

    • Identify the conclusion and the relevant premises

    • Reformulate the premises and conclusion into clear concise language

    • Present a formal argument with your reformulated language, where you clearly label the premises and conclusion(make sure you add the "therefore,...")

    • Evaluate your reformulated argument in three paragraphs totaling between 200-300 words. Make sure to address each of the following four questions:

      • Are the premises true?

      • Do the premises adequately support the conclusion?
(The premises in a political argument will not provide 0% support or 100% support for the conclusion but there is a lot of room between 0% and 100%)

      • Is the conclusion true?

      • How could this argument have been made stronger?
(For this question, you can ask yourself if the same premises could support a different conclusion, or if other premises could have been included that were omitted, etc.)

I will be focusing a bit more on how you reformulate the premises and conclusions for this assignment since you have now had some practice. Review the example I added under theWeek 6 module
