He has been working with his in-house IT team on the process of developing the Home Bookstore system. You have been brought in by Samuel as an independent IT consultant to assist with aspects of the development and implementation of the system. PART A – System prototype Development of the system is progressing, and Samuel wants to have a sense of how the system will manage data related to books. You have been assigned the task of constructing a prototype for the Home Bookstore database that will demonstrate how book information will be held. The store intends to keep track of the stock of books by assigning each book a number that will uniquely identify it. Apart from this, the book title, type, genre, file size, year of release, synopsis and the rental price of the book are also expected to be recorded in the new system. Samuel also wants to make sure that users are able to easily find books from genres that they are interested in. As such, in addition to the above Samuel wants each book to be associated with a type and genre as outlined in the table below. Table 1 – Book Types and Genres Book type Genre type Fiction Action, Anthology, Classic, Crime, Drama, Horror, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, etc. Non-fiction Biography, Cookbook, Diary, Dictionary, Health, Science, Travel, Maps, History, etc. © Didasko 2020. Ensure that all the fields referred to in the scenario above are included in the table and that the primary key field is assigned. Enter at least 15 records to the table as sample data. Save the database as ‘Bookstore’. Task 2 Add a form to the ‘Bookstore’ database created in Task 1. The form should include the functionality to Add, Delete and Update records added as part of Task 1. Task 3 Add a report to the ‘Bookstore’ database created in Task 1. The report type generated should be a ‘Summary Report’. The report is to display all fields in the ‘Book’ table you created in Task 1. Name the report ‘Book Summary Report’. © Didasko 2020. All rights reserved. Part B – System implementation Task 1 Samuel complains to you that his IT staff are insistent that the Home Bookstore system should contain tight security measures. Samuel is worried that these measures will be inconvenient and prove time-consuming for both employees and customers. Explain to Samuel why tight security should be integrated into the system. It is expected that you would use at least two facts/reasons to justify your answer. Task 2 Whilst in a meeting with Samuel he mentions in passing to you that he has received an email that he is unsure about. The email is purporting to be from his bank and claims that there is a problem with the account that he has set up for Home Bookstore. The email includes a link requesting Samuel log in to his account to fix the problem. Samuel is asking for your advice. a. Should Samuel follow the request from the email to log in to his account via the provided link? State clearly if you agree or disagree. b. State any problem that this scenario might pose. Use at least two facts/reasons to justify your answer. © Didasko 2020. All rights reserved. Task 3 One of the members of the IT team at Home Bookstore has put together a design for the user interface for the registration of a customer within the system (refer Figure 1 below). Samuel has asked you for your suggestions for improvements. a. Control improvements: You immediately identify that one means to improve this interface is to use a date picker control for the DOB field instead of a simple textbox. Other than the date picker control, what other controls could be changed to improve the usability of the interface. It is expected that you list at least three items and give a brief explanation for the inclusion of each. b. Other improvements: Apart from changing the controls, name at least two other ways you could improve the interface. It is expected that you give a brief explanation for the inclusion of each. You should submit the following:  xxx_Bookstore.accdb file which contains answers for Part A tasks.  A single Microsoft Word document called xxx_cse1isx_assessment3.docx which contains answers for Part B tasks (where xxx is your student number). © Didasko 2020.
