As you assess the strategy and performance of the organization. it is time to bring t ese pieces together to identify the major issues facing the firm.
ASSIGNMENT: Your write-up should focus on the conclusions rcachcd from working through the process. pulling data and analysis only as necessary to support your conclusions. Specifically. Your write-up should address:
( I ) The fit (or lack thereof) between Strategy and the Environment. Note that in addressing this you will need to clearly explain w hat aspects of strategy (with particular attention to the product focus/market focus and value proposition components) do or do not fit v. ith specific aspects of the environment (e.g.. key survival factors. drivers of change). • Key issues only. What fits and why. What doesn't fit and why.
(2) From your conclusions. describe two top-priority issues that the organization should address as it plans for the next five years. • Should tie to areas of poor fit (now or related to expected change) • Remember — analyze. don't 'report'. And EXPLAIN WHY.
NOTE: The emphasis here is on assessing fit and identifying issues (what might be called problem identification), NOT on generating solutions. l ou are NOT to suggest strategic changes here.
The write-up should be about I page long, single spaced with an extra space between paral2raphs. Feel free to use a memo bullet point format. Use a 12 Point font and one inch marzin, al/ around. Put your name in the top right corner. While you can go o% er one page it necessar. recognize that the focus is on conclusions (rather than a "data dump") and that you need to be clear and concise in your writing.
EVALUATION: This assignment is worth 10 points and will be evaluated by one of your peers (and cross-checked by the instructor). The evaluation will be based on the quality of the content as well as the quality of the delivery/presentation (clear and concise).
To facilitate the evaluation process, you must bring TWO hard copies of your write up to class.

2.1 Assess the influence of competitive forces in the industry Use the technique taught in class (e.g., the "five-forces" analysis) to evaluate how competitive forces influence competition for firms in this industry. Your investigation will generate several such unique "forces" in the industry. List these forces and then identify (with justification and explanation) the three most influential factors from this list (note that these may come from 1, 2 or 3 of the 5-forces). Categorize the impact of the top three factors on firms in this industry as being high, medium, or low.
2.2 Assess the influence of competitive forces in the broad environment Use the technique taught in class (e.g., the "P.E.S.T" analysis) to evaluate how forces in the broad environment influence competition for firms in this industry. Your investigation will generate several such unique "forces" in the broad environment. List these forces and then identify (with justification and explanation) the three most influential factors from this list. Categorize the impact of the top three factors on firms in this industry as being high, medium, or low.

The overview of the industry depicts that U.S Airways is in the industry which is highly cyclic in
nature. The history of the industry reveals issues such as bankruptcy and activities of M and A

after every ten years. The U.S Airline Industry currently has a point of standing where the future
seems to be blur. Although the Association of International Air transport and the Federal
Aviation Association forecasts that there will be an increase with regard to passengers and the
traffic of cargo with a decline in profits. So, a lot is required for sorting out the profits with
regard to the industry especially after the announcement of the plan of Fed for injecting 40 dollar
billion within the economy every month.
The drivers of change for U.S Airlines have been the following:
Internet Economy Rise- The e-commerce and internet has resulted in altering completely the
distribution of U.S Airlines. With e-tickets being in the market, travelers are able to book tickets
for flights through the U.S airline website. This allows the company to manage the rush and
eliminate the process of regression filled paperwork.
Globalization: The potential of growth in the travel market globally has led towards driving
globalization in the U.S airways industry. In order to facilitate international growth, U.S airlines
are opening the lobbies for open skies which is a treaty existing between U.S and the rest of the
world. The treaties involved are bilateral in nature with agreements essentially deregulating the
travel between the countries involved, therefore opening up several markets for competition. The
U.S Airlines industry currently has to sign more than 60 open treaties of skies with nations
around to be with the globe
Low-Cost Competition- The low cost carriers have risen forcing a change in the environment of
competition within the industry of air line. These fares are low putting pressure on the whole
industry and are forcing rivals for lowering the costs and decreasing the fares in order to stay
within competition
