Individual Assignment: Resolving a Conflict You are managing a large initiative that involves selecting and implementing a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for a global organization. You have four team members as follows who are tasked with selecting the best choice of technology for this project: • Samantha: a team member based in the US with 5 years of experience working on technology project teams in the company. She can be outspoken and sometimes doesn't realize she is "stepping" on others' toes. • Aafreen: a team member based in Australia with 3 years’ experience working in the company. Aafreen's expertise is as a marketing analyst with a strong IT background. He is outspoken but also easy going. • Siraj: a team member based in the US who relocated 2 weeks ago from India. He has 5 years’ experience working on global teams. He is easy going and fairly quiet. • Amy: a team member based in the US with 6 years’ experience in the company. She has a background in marketing and has managed product launches twice in the past. She has also worked on a major technology project at another company previously. She is confident in her abilities. These four team members have been constantly arguing about the best choice of technology for the project. Of the 3 CRM solutions discussed as viable options, they cannot agree on one of them. Now, Aafreen wants to move ahead and look at other alternatives even though they are already 3 weeks behind schedule. He has gotten a bit frustrated. Samantha has tried to take charge, but in doing so has caused Siraj to shut down. He no longer participates much in meetings. It is really affecting the progress of the team and the mood of the team overall. When other team members working on other components of the CRM project try to provide their thoughts, they are shut out. Just recently, a few members of the senior leadership team have noticed that there are problems with this project because they have heard rumblings from their staff. They are concerned because this project must be launched on time. • How would you assist the team to resolve this conflict? • Be specific in how you would help the team to resolve this conflict in your response to the situation. Consider challenges you will have with the team members involved and the broader team and comment on how you will address the challenges. • How could you avoid this type of conflict later on in the project and on future projects?
