Page 2 of 15 Assignment Brief Coursework details: Please read the following information CAREFULLY. If you are in doubt about anything, please consult your lecturer before you submit your work. (a) The nature of the coursework. This is a 100% coursework assessment on the EVT2203 The Global Event Industry module for the April 2020 semester. The assessment contains of 2 assignments. This assignment requires students to examine the importance of management functions (Program Development, Event Marketing, Event Logistic, Staging and Production, and Finance Management) which work together to create successful event. It also allows students to critically analyse the key issues the event will face during its planning and production. This assignment covers the materials taught in class meetings as well from the electronic resources and will mainly examine the overall understanding of the event industry sector, issues and trends affecting it, and the challenges involved in its management. You are expected to support your essay with relevant and appropriate literatures from journals. Other Specific Instructions for this Assignment THE TASK ASSIGNMENT 1: GROUP PRESENTATION WEIGHTAGE: 30% (REFER TO RUBRIC FOR ORAL PRESENTATION) Students are required to produce infographic posters based on the proposal of culinary competition and to present the ideas in a form of attractive presentation slides in the class. The event can be held at any suitable location of your choice with INTI as the main organiser. The presentation should include an introduction of the event, continue with FOUR elements namely, program development, event marketing, event logistic staging and production, and finance management. The presentation should end with future predictions of trends that might be occurred if the proposed event to be held in the next future years. You are required to form a team of 4 to 5 people in which your team will have to produce and present on the ideas that your team will develop. At the end of the task preparation: 1. Your team will have to present the proposal in the class. 2. Submit the infographic posters and evidence of the presentation in the form of the slides that have been used in the presentation and any other supporting material(s) (used during the presentation). Your proposal should contain but not limited to the followings: 1. Introduction – you may want to give an introduction of what the event is all about. Elements such as the theme, date, venue, target audience, objectives, and other relevant information about the event can also be included. A timeline of the event is highly recommended. 2. Program Development – you have to propose a creative and interesting program that makes your event different to any similar event. 3. Event marketing strategies – your team will have to describe the activities that will be carried out to promote the event to the targeted audience and members of the public. 4. The event logistic, staging, production – discuss about the logistic management of the event. You may include the program design for the event and the production that may involve in the event. 5. Finance management, budgeting and sponsorship – in this component, it is crucial that you and your team is able to suggest an estimated amount of the budget involves for the said event. 6. Future trends and issues - Your group must include what are the future trends and issues that might be occurred if the proposed event to be held in the future. You must be able to determine what are the possible management responses to these. 7. Conclusion 8. References Each team is given 20 minutes for presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q & A session. Presentation should be recorded and create youtube link for marking purposes. Expectations for the presentation: Students are expected to give a professional presentation – to dress professionally, to make use of professional audio-visual aids, to structure the presentation, and to make use of good communication skills. To accompany the presentation: The ‘Preparation Log’ (500-1000 words) to contain: - A technical log, simply providing details of preparatory meetings that have taken place (or emails exchanged) in preparing for the presentation, clearly identifying who was present at the meetings (or ‘virtual meetings’), any site visits and participants in these, the allocation of work tasks to each group member, and signed confirmation that an equal contribution to the presentation was made by all parties (where it is established that an equal contribution has not been made, group marks will be withdrawn and individual marks will be allocated in discussion with the group as a whole). - Submit at the time of the presentation. Students who do not submit a Preparation Log will receive no presentation grade. - The team is also expected to hand in a handout of the slides utilised in their presentation and a 1- page rationale to describe task allocation within the group. Also, a reflection about things the team would do differently next time should be included in the rationale. - Individuals are expected to research this presentation using a variety of sources, remembering it is an academic assignment and contribute to the team presentation. - Produce a professional and clear colour presentation which summarises your groups key industry findings and conclusion. Page 4 of 15 Format for the submitted work - Attractive proposal using presentation slides (softcopy and printed version) and a typed ‘Preparation Log’ (500-1000 words) Marking criteria for the presentation: See Appendix A Page 5 of 15 ASSIGNMENT 2: INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT Weightage: 70% (RUBRIC FOR REPORT) SUBMIT A WRITTEN FEASIBILITY REPORT (2,500 WORDS exclude diagrams, data, appendices and references) You are expected to support your report with relevant literature research. Produce a professional report detailing a feasibility report on a particular event. The report should include the key issues the event will face during its planning and production. Assignment 2 Guide The following points will guide you on how to write your report: 1. This comprises a written report of 2,500 words which you are working on individually; students will create an event from the themes listed here. i) Team-building event ii) Exhibition 2. Student should make sure the event of their choice is a local event which will be held within Malaysia and must be of a reasonable size to fit in the 2,500-word limit. The report will go through all the themes as listed in the weekly outline of the module, and include an examination of events as a means through which to celebrate cultural identity and promote cultural exchange. In carrying out this feasibility study, you may want to present findings from literature search on some of the past studies on planning and production of the event.
