Increase alpha (e.g., use .10 instead of .05). Increasing alpha in order to increase the chance of detecting an existing difference is controversial and requires some brief comments here. There is a long history and very strong scientific convention about using the .05 level. Also, very importantly, increasing alpha increases the chance that you’ll conclude there is a difference when there isn’t (Type I error). This is an important mistake. It might result in current and future clients receiving an ineffective service, although on subsequent use the mistake might be discovered.
