In the table below the height and mass data for 30 eleven-year-old girls are given.
a) Before making a scatterplot of the data, suggest what you think the relationship between the two measures is likely to be (your hypothesis).
b) Create a scatterplot of the data. Decide whether a linear relationship is appropriate for the data or not.
c) Are there strong outliers visible on the scatterplot?
d) Calculate Pearson’s r for the data. Does Pearson’s r indicate a weak, moderate or strong relationship between the two variables?
e) Was your hypothesis about the relationship between the two measures confirmed or disconfirmed?
