Directions: 1. Read two articles from your textbook Current Issues and Enduring Questions: “Building Baby from the Genes up” by Ronald M. Green (https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp- dyn/content/article/2008/04/11/AR2008041103330.html) on page 449 and “Genetically Modified Humans? No Thanks” by Richard Hayes (https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp- dyn/content/article/2008/04/15/AR2008041501620.html) on page 453. Each author poses a different viewpoint on the issue of human genetic modification. 2. Create one paragraph that discusses how each author feels about the issue of genetic modification and their solution to it. 3. Include 2 direct quotes from each author in your paragraph. You should have a total of at least 4 direct quotes in all. 4. Formally introduce both articles when you first begin using them in the first paragraph: article title (in quotes), the author’s name, and where it was published (in italics). 5. The key in this assignment is practicing using direct quotes and paraphrasing when multiple authors are part of the conversation. It is important that you make it very clear which of the two authors are speaking and what portion of the sentence is from their own words by placing it in quotes. 6. You will need to paraphrase (put into your own words) your discussions of the information from the articles that are not direct quotes. Tips for this assignment: 1. Distinguish between each article by referring to the authors’ last names after you have formally introduced them. Make it clear where the information is coming from in your writing. In-text citations are placed at the end of the sentence and include the paragraph number (where the quote can be found in the article) and the author's last name (if the author's name isn't introduced somewhere in the sentence). 2.) There are no commas inside the in-text citations. 3.) There isn't any punctuation before the end quotes of the direct quotes (unless a question or exclamation mark used). 3 pts Sufficient One minor error in in- text citations. 0 pts No Marks More than one error. 5 pts This criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeSign al Phrases 5 pts Full Marks Signal Phrases are used before the direct quote.
