In structural tests of material to be used in an airplane’s fuselage, rivets are cycled (tapped) until they crack. The number of cycles (x, in thousands) is recorded along with the detectable crack length (y, in mm). The data are given in the following table.


a. Carefully sketch a scatter plot of these data. Does there appear to be a linear relationship between the number of cycles and the length of the crack? Explain.


b. Find the estimated regression line, and complete the ANOVA table.


c. How does the F test for a significant regression support your answer to part (a)?
