In section 1.6 (Chapter 1) it was stated that the function of a DBMS is to overcome problems attendant on the use of a database. In this an unduly harsh assessment? Argue the case for a more charitable view, namely that a DBMS offers a consistent set of facilities which would otherwise be provided in a piecemeal fashion.
