In Problem 6 at the end of Chapter 11 (page 325), we presented a study showing that a visible tattoo can significantly lower the attractiveness rating of a woman shown in a photograph (Resenhoeft, Villa, & Wiseman, 2008). In a similar study, a sample of n 5 9 males looks at a set of 30 photographs of women and rates the attractiveness of each woman using a 10-point scale (10 5 most positive). One photograph appears twice in the set, once with a tattoo and once with the tattoo removed. For each participant, the researcher records the ratings for the two photographs. The results are shown in the following table.
a. Use a repeated-measures ANOVA with a =.05 to determine whether the mean difference between treatments is significant.
b. Now use a repeated-measures t test with a 5.05 to evaluate the mean difference between treatments. Comparing your answers from a and b, you should find that F 5 t2.
