In June 2009, Virginia Commonwealth University notified over 17,000 current and former students that their social security numbers could have been compromised. An additional 22,500 students were notified that their names, test scores, and computer-generated students ID numbers had been located on a computer which had been stolen from a locked area within a locked room on the university campus.
