In Example 4.1 the initial concentration of acetone in the water was reduced from
100 g/L to 33 g/L by contacting it with 700 L of TCE in which there is no acetone,
The batch mass contactor vessel required to do this has a volume of 1500 L. A second vessel of 2200 L is available and 1400 L of TCE is available. You can use either vessel and you can assume that the acetone in the water has already been reduced to 33 kg/m3. What is the lowest concentration of acetone in the water that can be achieved by carrying out a Level II analysis? Describe in detail the operations that need to be carried out.

The water–TCE mixture is immiscible. The density of pure TCE is about 1450 kg/m3, and even if all the acetone is transferred to the TCE it reduces the density to only 1350 kg/m3. The water density is about 1000 kg/m3
Even with the all the acetone in the water the density does not essentially vary from that of water, 1000 kg/m3.
